Seahawks @ Broncos TNF Showdown: Denver's Secondary Is Short-Handed, and Seattle Wants to Run

Tyler Redshaw

The total is 40.5, Denver's top two defensive backs are out, and Seattle has run the ball more than expected all season. In tonight's Week 6 TNF Showdown (Seahawks @ Broncos, 8:15 PM ET), our dfs-stack.ai game environment has Seattle implied for 21.5 and Denver for 19, which makes the Seahawks 2.5-point road favorites. Here's what matters for your DraftKings Showdown builds (CPT + 5 FLEX, $50K cap).

Game environment: low total, slow pace, Seattle on the ground

  • Total: 40.5. Implied: SEA 21.5, DEN 19.
  • Pace: Both teams are slow (DEN 54.9, SEA 53.9 plays in our environment), so there won't be many extra snaps.
  • Rush rate: Seattle runs on 50.5% of plays in our environment; Denver runs on 43.3%.
  • Neutral-script tendency (through Week 5): Seattle is +5.1% run over expectation, one of the most run-leaning offenses in the league. Denver is close to neutral (+0.4% pass OE).
  • Matchup factors (1.0 = average, above 1 = softer): Seattle's runners get a softer-than-average Denver run defense (1.03 YPC factor). Denver's offense faces a tough Seattle defense (0.97 YPC, 0.94 YPT).

In short, Seattle has the better offensive setup, and a big share of that offense goes through one receiver and one running back.

Injuries that matter

Denver: CB Pat Surtain II (ankle) is OUT. S Talanoa Hufanga (ankle) is OUT and expected to miss multiple weeks. CB Riley Moss (ribs) is QUESTIONABLE — if he sits too, Denver's starting secondary is mostly backups. WR Pat Bryant (ankle) is on IR.

Seattle: RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) is OUT — the key news for the Seattle backfield. LB Chazz Surratt (calf) and LB Drake Thomas (ankle) are OUT. CB Julian Neal (hamstring) is on IR.

With no Surtain, no Hufanga, and Moss questionable, Jaxon Smith-Njigba gets the best matchup of anyone on the slate.

Captain ladder (proj = our mean projection)

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba (SEA WR): $11,600 FLEX / 20.0 proj; $17,400 CPT / 30.0 CPT proj
  • Sam Darnold (SEA QB): $9,800 FLEX / 14.6 proj; $14,700 CPT / 21.9 CPT proj
  • Bo Nix (DEN QB): $9,600 FLEX / 13.8 proj; $14,400 CPT / 20.7 CPT proj
  • Emanuel Wilson (SEA RB): $9,400 FLEX / 10.4 proj; $14,100 CPT / 15.6 CPT proj
  • RJ Harvey (DEN RB): $6,400 FLEX / 9.3 proj; $9,600 CPT / 13.9 CPT proj
  • J.K. Dobbins (DEN RB): $8,400 FLEX / 8.4 proj; $12,600 CPT / 12.7 CPT proj

  • Courtland Sutton (DEN WR): $8,000 FLEX / 7.0 proj; $12,000 CPT / 10.5 CPT proj
  • George Holani (SEA RB): $4,400 FLEX / 7.1 proj; $6,600 CPT / 10.7 CPT proj

Kickers rate well on a low total: Jason Myers (8.1 proj, $5,000) and Wil Lutz (7.7 proj, $5,400). SEA DST is 7.3 proj ($5,200) and DEN DST is 6.3 proj ($4,800).

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: the clear top play

JSN is our top projection by a wide margin at 20.0 proj (30.0 as captain). He has a 30% target share, 83% of snaps, and 39% of Seattle's receiving TDs. He also has 25+ DK points in four of five games this season (29.2, 45.5, 38.4, 12.6, 25.8). He appears in 80% of our optimal lineups, the highest rate on the slate. With Denver missing Surtain and Hufanga, we're not overthinking him. He belongs in most builds, at captain or in FLEX.

The Emanuel Wilson captain case

The low total is exactly why Wilson works at captain. In a 40.5-total game, touchdowns are scarce, and Wilson is the player most likely to get the ones Seattle scores on the ground.

  • Workload: He had 20+ carries in three of his last four games (21, 9, 21, 20). His snap rate jumped to 59% last week from 40% across the season.
  • Goal-line role: He has ~49% of Seattle's rushing TDs. He scored in back-to-back weeks (27.0 DK points vs. LAC, 14.2 vs. SF).
  • Charbonnet is out, so Wilson's main competition for carries is gone. Holani ($4,400) is the only other real option.
  • Run-first team: Seattle is +5.1% run over expectation in neutral script and should be playing with a slight lead as the favorite.
  • Matchup: Denver's run defense rates softer than average (1.03 YPC factor), and the Broncos defense is banged up.
  • Sims: Wilson appears in 35.8% of our optimal lineups, but only 0.9% of our builds use him at captain.

The risk is that our mean (10.4 proj, about 10 projected carries) assumes a lighter workload than his recent games. That's the reason to consider him: if he gets 20 carries and a short TD again, a $14,100 Wilson captain beats almost any Denver captain in a game this low-scoring. He works best paired with JSN in FLEX.

Leverage captain. 20+ carries in 3 of last 4, Charbonnet out, run-first script.

Chalk: the QBs at captain

Our builds lean heavily toward quarterbacks at captain. Darnold is the captain in 43.9% of builds and Nix in 39.7%. Both make sense, since they're the main source of points in a low-total game, but that's the obvious play. Darnold is the better of the two at 14.6 proj, with Seattle favored and Denver missing two starters in the secondary. Nix faces a tough Seattle pass defense (0.94 YPT factor).

Leverage

  • Wilson CPT (above): a 35.8% optimal rate against a 0.9% captain build rate is the biggest gap on the board.
  • RJ Harvey ($6,400 FLEX / $9,600 CPT): He's in 36.1% of optimal lineups at a much lower salary than Dobbins. He leads Denver's backfield in pass-game work, with a 15% target share, 10 catches in Week 4, and 17 targets over Weeks 3–4. If Denver falls behind, his receiving work is the Broncos' best path to points.
  • Holani ($4,400): If you don't want to pay up for Wilson, Holani is a cheap way to get Seattle rushing exposure with Charbonnet out (7.1 proj).

Value DEN RB over Dobbins. Pass-game work and salary leverage.

Fades

  • J.K. Dobbins ($8,400): He's $2,000 more than Harvey and projects lower (8.4 vs. 9.3 proj). He also has a lower optimal rate (26.3% vs. 36.1%).
  • Jaylen Waddle ($9,000) and Courtland Sutton ($8,000): Both have high salaries for 7.4 and 7.0 proj, against a Seattle defense that limits passing (0.94 YPT factor) in a game where Denver is implied for only 19 points. Waddle is in 63% of our builds, which seems high for his projection, so going underweight on him is an easy edge.

DFS takeaways

  • Core: JSN in most lineups (80% optimal).
  • Chalk captains: Darnold, then Nix.
  • Leverage captain: Emanuel Wilson. Uses 20+ carries in three of his last four, a ~49% rushing TD share, a run-first offense, and no Charbonnet.
  • Value: Harvey over Dobbins; Holani as a cheap Seattle RB.
  • Kickers and DSTs are playable on a 40.5 total. Myers is our top-projected kicker.
  • Check inactives about 90 minutes before kickoff, especially Riley Moss.
